Words As Windows

Words As Windows

Writing, theoretically.

I’ve heard it said that words should offer windows onto the world, a means of seeing. That an essay should function like a clear plate of glass framing the horizon. (No smudges, please). But maybe this isn’t the right thing to ask of a writer. Perhaps the smudges on the glass are actually the key to seeing what it is we’re after. Through the residue of our touch the world might be refracted at just the right angle to see what can never be seen head on.
